Niclas Jonasson

Niclas Jonasson is a former professional Swedish ice hockey defenseman who played for several teams throughout his career.

Early Career and NHL Draft

Jonasson began his career with his hometown club Rögle BK. He was drafted by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 1993 NHL Entry Draft, and made his NHL debut with Toronto in January 1995.

New York Islanders and Team Captaincy

In March 1996, Jonasson was traded to the New York Islanders, where he played until 2004. He served as team captain from 1999 to 2001.

Return to Rögle and Retirement

After leaving the Islanders, Jonasson returned to Rögle and played for another five seasons. He announced his retirement on June 20, 2009.

International Career

Jonasson represented Sweden in three Olympic Games, winning two gold medals (1994, 2006) and seven World Championships. He was captain of the Swedish national team from 2006 to 2009.

Coaching and Awards

After retiring, Jonasson served as an assistant coach for Rögle from 2010 to 2013.
