Kenny Wayne Shepherd, born Kenny Wayne Brobst, is an American blues guitarist, singer, and songwriter. He was born in 1977 in Shreveport, Louisiana. Shepherd developed a passion for the guitar at a young age and began playing at the age of seven. His father, who worked as a music producer and radio host, introduced him to the world of music and even allowed him to play alongside him during his concerts.
Early Career
Shepherd made his first appearance on stage at the New Orleans Music Festival at the age of 13. By the age of 14, he was already touring with his own blues band. In 1993, at the age of 16, Shepherd participated in a unique project called Jewel Spotlights the Blues Vol. I&II, where he added his guitar skills to recordings by blues legends such as Willie Dixon.
Rise to Fame
After graduating from Caddo Magnet High School, Shepherd decided to pursue a career in music instead of pursuing a legal education. In 1995, at the age of 18, he released his debut album "Ledbetter Heights." The album quickly rose to the top of the Billboard blues chart and showcased Shepherd's original compositions as well as his talent for playing blues standards. His self-taught approach to music and his ability to capture the essence of blues music earned him recognition as a musical prodigy.
Continued Success
Following his debut album, Shepherd went on to release several successful albums, including "Trouble Is..." in 1997 and "Live On" in 1999, both of which achieved platinum status. He took a five-year hiatus before releasing his fourth album, "The Place You're In," in 2004. In 2007, Shepherd embarked on a national tour to promote his album "10 Days Out: Blues from the Backroads." Throughout his career, Shepherd has been recognized for his exceptional guitar skills and has become a representative for Fender guitars, having his own signature model.
Personal Life
Shepherd married Hannah, the eldest daughter of actor Mel Gibson, in 2006. They have two children together. In 2009, Shepherd performed a concert in Moscow, Russia at the Moscow International House of Music.
