Biography of Kerry McGregor

Early Life and Childhood

Kerry McGregor was born in 1974 in West Calder, Scotland, to a family of musicians. Her father tragically died in a car accident when she was just 5 years old, leaving her to be raised by her mother, Margaret McGregor, who was also a singer. Kerry's grandfather was the renowned Scottish musician Bobby MacKerracher, known as the "Scottish Bing Crosby."

Gymnastics and Injury

Kerry was involved in gymnastics until the age of 13 when a serious accident changed her life. She fell from a tree, breaking her spine and becoming paralyzed from the waist down. Despite this setback, she persevered and learned to walk with the help of crutches. Initially, authorities wanted to transfer her to a special school for disabled children, but Kerry fought to stay in her previous school. Her determination and resilience were recognized when she was nominated for and won the "Children's Achievement Award."

Music Career

After studying music and drama at Jewel and Esk Valley College, Kerry formed a dance group called "Nexus" in 1993. She later joined the group "QFX," whose album "Freedom" reached No. 21 in the British charts. Kerry's talent caught the attention of Kenny MacDonald, the manager of "The Proclaimers." In 1997, she placed second in "The Great British Song Contest," the British selection process for Eurovision.

The X Factor and Acting

In 2006, Kerry became a finalist on the reality show "The X Factor," where her mentor was Sharon Osbourne. In addition to her music career, Kerry also ventured into acting. She appeared in the television series "The Book Group" and "Grange Hill" between 2003 and 2008.

Battle with Cancer and Passing

In September 2010, Kerry was diagnosed with bladder cancer after experiencing severe abdominal pain for two years. She publicly revealed her illness in April 2011, speaking to "The Sun" magazine. Sadly, on January 4, 2012, at the age of 37, Kerry McGregor passed away at her home in West Calder, Scotland.

Personal Life

Kerry was in a civil partnership with Dean Robertson, and they welcomed a son, Joshua Robertson, in 2005.
