Biography of Kerry Von Erich

Kerry Gene Adkisson, also known as Kerry Von Erich, The Modern Day Warrior, and The Texas Tornado, was born on February 3, 1960. He was an American professional wrestler and was part of the famous Von Erich wrestling family.

Early Life and Career

Kerry got involved in the family business of professional wrestling during his high school years. He made his debut under the guidance of his father, Fritz Von Erich, in NWA Texas/Big Time Wrestling on June 17, 1979, in a match against Gary Hart. While wrestling in Big Time Wrestling, Kerry won several championships, mainly in tag team matches. However, his fame came when he joined the Texas division of World Class Championship Wrestling (WCCW) where he performed as The Modern Day Warrior.

World Wrestling Federation (WWF) and Championships

After spending 11 years in WCCW, Kerry moved to the World Wrestling Federation (WWF). Throughout his career, he won a total of 40 championship titles. He became a five-time world champion, a four-time WCWA Heavyweight Champion, a one-time NWA Heavyweight Champion, and a one-time WWF Intercontinental Champion.

Personal Life and Tragedy

On June 18, 1983, Kerry married Catherine M. Murray, and they had two children named Hollie Brooke and Lacey. However, their marriage ended in divorce on April 22, 1992. Kerry struggled with drug addiction, which was believed to be the cause of a motorcycle accident in 1986 that resulted in the amputation of his right foot. Unfortunately, Kerry could not keep his amputation a secret, and it was revealed during a match against Colonel DeBeers in Las Vegas when his opponent accidentally exposed his prosthetic foot.

Final Years and Tragic Death

Kerry continued his wrestling career in various promotions, including the United States Wrestling Association and the Global Wrestling Federation. However, on February 18, 1993, Kerry tragically took his own life by shooting himself in the chest with a 9mm pistol on his father's ranch in Denton, Texas. The day before, he had been charged with drug possession and was facing a significant prison sentence for violating court orders.

Kerry Von Erich left behind a lasting legacy in professional wrestling. He was a talented wrestler and a crowd favorite during his career.
