Keshia Knight Pulliam: A Child Star's Journey to Success

Early Life and Television Debut

Keshia Knight Pulliam was born on April 9, 1979, in Newark, New Jersey. At just three years old, she began her journey in show business, appearing in television commercials. Her first major role came in the beloved children's program "Sesame Street," where she played Keshia and interacted with iconic characters like Elmo, Big Bird, and the Count.

Breakthrough with "The Cosby Show"

In 1984, Pulliam's career reached new heights when she landed the iconic role of Rudy Huxtable in Bill Cosby's comedy series "The Cosby Show." As the youngest member of the Huxtable family, Pulliam charmed audiences with her precociousness, humor, and occasional wisdom. Her performance earned her an NAACP Image Award in 1984 and an Emmy nomination in 1986, making her the youngest nominee in the history of the award.

Post-"Cosby Show" Career

After "The Cosby Show" ended in 1992, Pulliam chose to prioritize her education over acting. However, she returned to the screen as Vanessa Huxtable in the spin-off series "Cosby" in 1996. She also made appearances in films such as "The Little Match Girl" (1987), "A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court" (1989), and "Polly" (1989), reuniting with her "Cosby Show" mother, Phylicia Rashad, in the 1999 sequel "Polly: Comin' Home!"

Reinvention and Return to Acting

Pulliam took a hiatus from acting after graduating from Spelman College in 2001. She later returned to television, participating in reality shows such as "Celebrity Mole: Yucatan" and "The Weakest Link." In 2002, she returned to the big screen in the independent films "What About Your Friends: Weekend Getaway" and "Christmas at Water's Edge."

Breaking Away from the Rudy Stereotype

Pulliam sought to break away from her iconic "Cosby Show" role. In 2004, she appeared in Chingy's music video "One Call Away." She also began promoting lingerie and swimwear in 2005. Her efforts to redefine herself were recognized when VH1 named her one of the "100 Greatest Kid Stars" in 2005.

Collaboration with Tyler Perry

In 2008, Pulliam began collaborating with writer, actor, and director Tyler Perry. She has since appeared in several of his projects, including the popular Madea franchise. Her work with Perry has allowed her to showcase her versatility and expand her audience.

Continued Success

Pulliam continues to act and inspire audiences. She has made appearances in films and television shows, including "Madea Goes to Jail" (2009), "A Very Perry Christmas" (2013), and "House of Payne" (2006-2012). She is also an author and entrepreneur, having written the book "Pulliam's Powerhouse: How I Used My Passion to Create the Career of My Dreams."
