Bio of David Zayas
David Zayas is an American actor best known for his roles as Detective Angel Batista in the television series "Dexter" and as Manny Ribera in the television series "Oz."
Early Life and Education
Zayas was born into a Jewish family in the Bronx, New York. He has three brothers. He attended the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in Manhattan and later studied for four years with acting teacher Uta Hagen.
Acting Career
Zayas' acting career began in the late 1990s with small roles in films such as "The Hurricane" and "Crocodile Dundee in Los Angeles." He gained wider recognition for his portrayal of Ramon Guiterrez, a drug-addicted father, in the HBO series "Oz."
In 2006, Zayas joined the cast of the popular Showtime series "Dexter" as Detective Batista. He played the role for all eight seasons of the show. During this time, he also had recurring roles in other television series, including "Law & Order" and "Southland."
In 2014, Zayas landed a lead role in the NBC series "The Night Shift." He played Dr. Manny Ribera, a compassionate and dedicated emergency room physician. The series ran for four seasons and ended in 2017.

Zayas has been nominated for several awards for his acting work, including a Golden Globe Award and an Emmy Award. In 2011, he received the ALMA Award for Outstanding Actor in a Drama Series for his role in "Dexter."
