Biography of Kevin Tan
Kevin Tan, an American athlete, gymnast, and participant of the 2008 Olympics, was born on September 24, 1981, in Fremont, California. He is a professional American athlete who excels in the sport of gymnastics.
Chinese Roots
Kevin Tan has Chinese roots. In the late 1940s, his parents immigrated from China to Taiwan before eventually settling in California. His father graduated from Stanford University in the United States. Sadly, Kevin's mother passed away from cancer during his high school years.
Education and Career
In 2005, Kevin Tan received a higher education and graduated from Penn State University with a degree in economics and finance. He is considered an expert in these fields. Since 2005, he has also served as an assistant coach for the Penn State University gymnastics team. In 2007, the team won the NCAA championship.
Pursuit of Healthy Living
In 2006, Kevin Tan experienced an unfortunate incident in Denmark during the World Cup. He fell ill due to consuming a low-quality sandwich just a few days before the competition. As a result, he felt weak and couldn't perform at his best. Since then, Kevin Tan has chosen to only consume healthy and high-quality food. He never eats on the go or in fast-food places. He realized the importance of maintaining his health to achieve significant victories in his life. He has permanently given up eating roast beef and sandwiches.
Athletic Achievements
Kevin Tan's favorite gymnastics apparatus is the rings, where he executes the most complex combinations of exercises. He is a two-time champion in this discipline. In 2007, he placed fourth in the rings competition at the World Championships. In 2008, Kevin Tan became the captain of the Olympic gymnastics team, representing his country alongside athletes such as Paul Hamm, Justin Spring, Morgan Hamm, and many others.
The Beijing Olympics
Kevin Tan will participate in the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, marking his first trip to China. Growing up, his parents often spoke Chinese at home, which allowed him to become fluent in both English and Chinese languages.
