Early Life and Education
Khaltmaagiin Battulga was born on March 3, 1963, in Ulaanbaatar. He graduated from the Mongolian School of Fine Arts in 1982 with a degree in art.
Sports Career
Battulga was a member of the Mongolian national team for sambo and judo from 1986 to 1989. He won the world championship in sambo in 1983 and was a vice-champion in 1986 and 1990.
Business Career
After his sports career, Battulga worked as a general director of the company "Jenko" from 1992 to 1997. He also held various business positions in Mongolia until 2004.
Political Career
Battulga entered politics in 2004 when he became a member of the State Great Khural of Mongolia. He served as Minister of Roads and Transport from 2008 to 2012 and Minister of Industry and Agriculture from 2012 until his election to the presidency.
Presidency
In 2017, Battulga was nominated by the Mongolian Democratic Party for the presidential post. He won the election on July 7, 2017, and took office on July 10, 2017.
Personal Life
Battulga is married to Angelica Davain. He has twin sons and speaks Mongolian, Russian, and English.
