Early Life and Education
Kimberly (Kim) Jayne Raver was born on March 15, 1969, in New York City. Raised by her mother, Tina Raver, and stepfather, Chris Meltesen, she has a sister, Cybele, and several step-siblings.
Raver attended Northfield Mount Hermon School in Massachusetts and went on to earn a B.A. in Theater Arts from Boston University in 1991. Later, she studied acting under Wynn Handman, founder of the American Place Theatre.
Acting Debut
Raver's television debut occurred at the tender age of six when she appeared on the children's educational series "Sesame Street." While she enjoyed the experience, she didn't consider it a serious acting role.
Theatre Career
After graduating from theatre school, Raver ventured into stage acting. In 1995, she starred in David Warren's comedy "Holiday" at the Broadway Circle in the Square Theatre. The play ran for 50 performances.
In 1999, Raver joined John Spencer and David Schwimmer in Scott Ellis's production of "The Glimmer Brothers" at the Williamstown Theatre Festival.
Film and Television Roles
While still a student, Raver began appearing in commercials for major brands like Visa and Jeep. In 1992, she auditioned for a role in Michael Mann's film adaptation of "The Last of the Mohicans" but was rejected.
Her first significant television role came in 1992 in the drama "Menendez: A Killing in Beverly Hills." She followed this with guest appearances on "New York Undercover," "Law & Order," and "The Practice."
In 1999, Raver landed a starring role as emergency medical technician Kim Zambrano in the crime drama series "Third Watch." She appeared in the first five seasons, part of the sixth season, and in a cameo appearance in the series finale.
From 2004 to 2007, Raver played Audrey Raines, the love interest of Kiefer Sutherland's Jack Bauer, on the television show "24." The show earned critical acclaim and an ensemble cast nomination for the Screen Actors Guild Award in 2007.
After a short-lived series called "Nine," Raver starred in the dramedy "Lipstick Jungle" as the stylish and powerful publishing executive Nico Reilly. She shared the screen with Brooke Shields and Lindsay Price.
In 2009, Raver became a recurring guest star as cardiothoracic surgeon Teddy Altman in the sixth season of the medical drama "Grey's Anatomy." She was promoted to a series regular in January 2010. Raver's character left the show in 2012 but returned in Season 15.
Raver has also had notable roles in films such as "Bones" (as Special Agent Grace Miller) and "The Advocate" (as Frankie Reese).
Personal Life
In 2000, Raver married French filmmaker Manuel Boyer. They have two sons, Luke West (born in 2002) and Leo Kipling (born in 2007).
Raver and her husband are known for their tight-knit family and their professional collaboration. Together, they produced the 2019 feature film "Tempting Fate" and the movies "To Have and to Hold" and "Family Pictures."
