Kim Tok-hun: A Rising Star in North Korean Politics
Kim Tok-hun, the 7th Premier of the Cabinet of North Korea, has emerged as a prominent figure in the country's political landscape.
Early Career
Before 2016, Kim served as a member of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK). His rise to prominence began in 2019, when he was appointed to the Political Bureau of the WPK's Central Committee and placed in charge of the Personnel Department.
Corruption Exposé
Kim's reputation skyrocketed in February 2020 when he uncovered a corruption scandal involving educational institutions. This act is believed to have earned him the favor of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.
Rapid Aufstieg
In April 2020, Kim became head of the Budget Committee of the Supreme People's Assembly. And on August 13, 2020, amid the COVID-19 pandemic and severe flooding in the southern part of the country, Kim Jong-un appointed him as Premier of the Cabinet of North Korea. He was subsequently named to the Presidium of the Political Bureau of the WPK's Central Committee.
Current Position
Since 2022, Kim Tok-hun has held the rank of the second-highest-ranking official in North Korea, behind only Kim Jong-un. He remains a key figure in the country's political decision-making and is expected to continue playing a pivotal role in its future development.
