Kimberly Ovitz, an American fashion designer, is the founder and creative director of the fashion line 'Kimberly Ovitz'. Early Life and Education
Kimberly Ovitz was born and raised in Brentwood, California. From a young age, she had a keen interest in fashion design and equestrian sports. Growing up in an environment conducive to nurturing her talents, Ovitz, being the daughter of one of the founders of CAA, Michael Ovitz, naturally developed into a creative individual. Her early love for contemporary art and architecture played a significant role in shaping her path as a fashion designer.
At the age of 14, Ovitz became an intern at 'J. Crew', where she learned valuable lessons that influenced her style and approach to fashion design. She also learned a great deal from Emily Scott, one of the founders and former CEO of the label. Later, Ovitz worked at 'Harper's Bazaar' with photographer Herb Ritts, followed by positions at 'Karl Lagerfeld' and 'W Magazine'. She furthered her formal education at Parsons School of Design and then Brown University, where she earned a bachelor's degree in art history and business.
Career and Success
After college, Ovitz worked with labels such as 'Imitation of Christ', 'YaYa', and 'Twelfth Street by Cynthia Vincent'. In 2009, she launched her own project, the 'Kimberly Ovitz Collection', in her design studio in Santa Monica, California. Three years later, Ovitz relocated to Tribeca, New York.
Her early designs featured a neutral style with subtle nods to equestrian sports and a grunge aesthetic. Critics and buyers alike appreciated Ovitz's debut, and her long-sleeved dress from 2009 became a red carpet favorite. Her designs continued to showcase elements of horse racing, a sport she cherished since childhood, and helped establish a strong and confident image for the women who wore them.
Ovitz quickly gained a loyal following with her love for simple yet charmingly minimalist garments. Her collections were showcased at New York Fashion Week in 2010, with her spring collection displayed at Mac Milk Studios. Among the attendees was family friend Martin Scorsese. Her fall collection of the same year, featuring asymmetrical architectural designs, solidified Ovitz's reputation as an upcoming star in minimalist fashion.
Kimberly Ovitz's designs received further endorsement when celebrities such as Chloe Sevigny and Olivia Wilde embraced her unique style. Lindsay Lohan also wore one of Ovitz's dresses to a court hearing in February 2011, which led to a surge in demand for her clothing.
