Biography of Kira Ivanova
Kira Ivanova, born on January 10, 1963, in Moscow, was a highly accomplished figure skater. She achieved the title of International Master of Sports in figure skating and won a bronze medal at the 1984 Olympics in singles skating. Ivanova also secured a silver medal at the 1985 World Championships and became a four-time silver medalist at the European Championships from 1985 to 1988. In 1979, she became the champion of the USSR.
Despite her remarkable talent, Ivanova faced numerous challenges throughout her career. She did not enjoy giving interviews and had a fear of them. Despite her fears, she excelled in her performances, consistently attaining second or third place in various competitions. However, her desire was always to be first among the top skaters in her time, including Elena Vodorezova and Anna Kondrashova.
Ivanova's career took a turn when she transferred to train under Vladimir Kovalev, a two-time world champion. Although Kovalev was a talented skater and coach, his rocky relationship with the authorities led to his title being revoked twice. Ivanova's difficulties were further compounded by her own struggles with alcohol addiction.
After retiring from competitive skating, Ivanova found work as a coach. She discovered a rare talent for coaching and helped shape the career of Anastasia Myshkina, daughter of the five-time world champion and Soviet hockey goalkeeper, Vladimir Myshkin. Ivanova's coaching career faced ups and downs, and she was eventually dismissed due to her ongoing battle with alcoholism.
Tragically, on December 18, 2001, Ivanova was found murdered in her apartment on Decabristov Street in Moscow. The crime scene indicated that she knew her killer and allowed them into her home. The motive behind her murder remains a mystery. Ivanova's death was a devastating loss for the figure skating community, as she was a talented skater and a passionate coach.
Despite the challenges she faced in her personal life, Ivanova's accomplishments and contributions to figure skating will always be remembered. Her dedication, skill, and determination earned her a place among the top figure skaters of her time.
