Early Success
Takayama's professional boxing career began in 2005 with an impressive knockout victory over former world champion Noel Arambulet. In 2006, he defeated Juan Jose Landaeta twice to become the new WBA Light Flyweight Champion.
Weight Class Dominance
In 2009, Takayama captured the WBC Flyweight Championship by outpointing Daisuke Naito. However, in his next fight, he suffered his first professional loss, a close decision defeat to Pongthawat Wongsakonkhom.
Despite this setback, Takayama returned to winning ways, defeating Alexander Munoz in December 2010 to become the WBA Bantamweight Champion. He successfully defended his title eight times within a three-year reign.
Family Legacy
Takayama is not only a three-time world champion but also comes from a boxing family. Along with his brothers Tomoki and Daiki, Takayama was a reigning world champion, making them the first siblings to hold world boxing titles simultaneously.
