Krzysztof Włodarczyk: Polish Boxing Champion
Early CareerKrzysztof Włodarczyk made his professional boxing debut in May 2000 in the cruiserweight division. He quickly rose through the ranks, capturing the IBF International Cruiserweight title in December 2001.
Title Contender
Włodarczyk continued his winning streak, earning an intercontinental title opportunity against Pavel Melkomyan in 2003. Despite suffering a knockdown and cuts, Włodarczyk rallied and won by technical decision in the fifth round. However, he faced his first defeat in 2004, losing to Sergey Karnevich.
World Champion
Undeterred, Włodarczyk rebounded with several consecutive victories. In 2006, he defeated Imam Mayfield and then Steve Cunningham to claim the IBF Cruiserweight Championship.
WBC Reign
In 2010, Włodarczyk set his sights on the WBC title, facing champion Giacobbe Fragomeni. After a draw in their first encounter, he knocked out Fragomeni in a rematch to win the championship.
Successful Defenses
Włodarczyk successfully defended his WBC title against Francisco Palacios and Danny Green. In 2013, he added another notable victory to his record, knocking out 2008 Olympic champion Rakhim Chakhkiev.
Loss of Title
Włodarczyk's reign came to an end in 2014 when he lost to Grigory Drozd in Moscow. Despite several attempts to regain his championship, he has yet to recapture the title.
Legacy
Krzysztof Włodarczyk retired in 2020 with an impressive record of 55 wins (39 by knockout) and three losses. He remains one of the most successful Polish boxers of all time, having held world titles in both the IBF and WBC cruiserweight divisions.
