Early Career
Komlassou Kokou Klassou, a Togolese politician, began his political journey as the Minister of Culture, Youth, and Sports under the government appointed on October 8, 2000. He held this position until 2003, when he was appointed the Minister of Elementary and Secondary Education on July 29, 2003.
Member of the National Assembly
In 2007, Klassou successfully ran for a seat in the National Assembly as the top candidate on the Union for the Togolese People (UNIR) list in the Haho prefecture. He was subsequently elected as the First Vice President of the National Assembly on November 24, 2007, and served in that role until 2015.
Presidential Campaign and Re-election to the National Assembly
Klassou played a significant role in Faure Gnassingbe's presidential campaign in April 2005. After the Constitutional Court declared Gnassingbe the winner of the disputed election, Klassou hailed it as "a great victory for the Togolese people." He was reelected to the National Assembly in the July 2013 parliamentary elections and was re-elected as the First Vice President of the National Assembly on September 2, 2013.
Appointment as Prime Minister
Following President Gnassingbe's re-election in the April 2015 presidential elections, Klassou was appointed Prime Minister of Togo on June 5, 2015, taking office on June 10, 2015. He announced the formation of a new government consisting of 23 ministers on June 28, 2015.
Retirement
In September 2020, President Faure Gnassingbe announced that Klassou had resigned from his position as Prime Minister.
