This sharakan, a form of Armenian hymn, showcases Ahcetsi's mastery of literary, rhythmic, and melodic composition. It features elements of the Byzantine kontakion, yet possesses a distinct national style with exceptional melodic richness. Ahcetsi also excelled as a poet. His poem, "Composed in Acrostic," is the earliest surviving Armenian poem. Each verse of this poem begins with a different letter of the Armenian alphabet, demonstrating his literary brilliance and creativity.
Architectural Contributions
Ahcetsi's architectural prowess is evident in his renovations of the Etchmiadzin Cathedral. He replaced the cathedral's wooden roof with stone vaults and gable-shaped facades. This 620 AD reconstruction introduced the four-column cruciform dome structure to Armenian architecture, making it a notable advancement in its time.
