Biography of Kool Keith
Kool Keith is an American rapper, popularly known as the founder of the group "Ultramagnetic MCs" and as a producer. He was born in 1965 in the Bronx, USA. His real name is Keith Matthew Thornton. He started his musical career as a street poet and later formed the group "Ultramagnetic MCs," which was considered a groundbreaking project at the time.
Breakthrough with "Critical Beatdown"
In 1988, Kool Keith and his three friends Sid Gee, T.R. Love, and DJ Moe Love released the album "Critical Beatdown" under the Next Plateau Records label. The four musicians were representatives of the "Ultramagnetic MCs" group. At the time, hip-hop culture was just emerging, and "Critical Beatdown" became a breakthrough in this direction. The album was a sensation and attained platinum status, leading to endless tours around the world with enthusiastic fans and followers.
Solo Career and Challenges
After the incredible success, the group faced internal conflicts. Kool Keith struggled with his fame, leading him to fall into deep depression and stop creating music. In 1992, they released their second album, "Funk Your Head Up," which was not as successful as their previous work, disappointing their fans. It lacked the abstraction and character that the musicians had demonstrated before.
Resurgence and Solo Projects
In 1993, Kool Keith and "Ultramagnetic MCs" regained their fame with the release of the album "4 Horsemen." During this period, Kool Keith started working on his own projects under various pseudonyms such as Dr. Doom, Rhytm-X, and Dr. Octagon. He collaborated with popular groups, including "Prodigy." In 1994, "Ultramagnetic MCs" officially announced their breakup, and Kool Keith focused on his solo career.
Solo Discography and Reunion
In 1996, Kool Keith released the album "Dr. Octagonecologyst," followed by "Sex Style," "First Come, First Served," "Black Elvis/Lost in Space," "Matthew," and "Spankmaster." In 2004, there were talks of a reunion for "Ultramagnetic MCs," and two new rappers joined the group. Despite past disagreements, Kool Keith decided to return to the collective. They plan to release an album that will please rap enthusiasts with both new releases of old hits and fresh and vibrant tracks.
