Costa Barbarouses: The Kiwi Striker with Greek Heritage

Costa Barbarouses is a New Zealand professional footballer of Greek descent. The forward currently plays for Sydney FC and the New Zealand national team.

Early Career and Wellington Phoenix

Barbarouses began his football journey at St Patrick's College in Wellington. He went on to represent Miramar Rangers and Wellington Olympic in the New Zealand Premier League before signing with Team Wellington. In May 2007, at the age of 17, he inked a three-year deal with the Wellington Phoenix, becoming their youngest player.

A-League Journey and Brisbane Roar

Barbarouses made his A-League debut in October 2007. In February 2010, he joined Brisbane Roar on a three-year contract. He became the team's top scorer with 12 goals, helping them win the regular season and the championship playoffs.

Russian Adventure and Return to Australia

In July 2011, Barbarouses joined Alania Vladikavkaz in the Russian FNL. After a loan spell at Panathinaikos in Greece, he signed with Melbourne Victory in 2013.

Return to Wellington Phoenix

In March 2016, Barbarouses announced his departure from Victory and his return to his hometown club, Wellington Phoenix. However, he rejoined Melbourne Victory in June 2017 on a two-year deal.

Sydney FC and International Career

In June 2019, Barbarouses became a Sydney FC player. He has represented New Zealand at various youth levels and made his senior debut in November 2008. He was part of the team that participated in the 2007 FIFA U-17 World Cup.

Personal Life

Barbarouses has an older brother, George, who is also a footballer and currently plays for Team Wellington.
