Early Life and Education

Christine Lahti, a Canadian actress, was born on May 3, 1972, in New Westminster, Canada. Raised in Vancouver as the elder daughter of schoolteachers, Lahti displayed an early affinity for the arts, pursuing ballet at the Royal Academy of Dance of Canada for eight years. However, a broken ankle at age 17 forced her to reconsider her dance career.

Transition to Acting

After abandoning her ballet aspirations, Lahti enrolled at the University of British Columbia, pursuing a Bachelor of Arts degree. However, she found herself longing for the stage and dropped out after three years. Following a brief stint as a manager at Gap, Lahti gained the courage to embark on an acting career. She attended the Actors' Studio of Gastown and built her portfolio while auditioning for commercial roles.

Early Film and Television Work

Lahti's acting career began in the late 1990s, with appearances in Canadian television shows and films. She landed episodic roles in "The Commissioner" and "The X-Files" before joining the main cast of Showtime's horror series "Poltergeist: The Legacy" from 1996 to 1999. While she continued to appear in hit American television series like "Prison Break" and "Castle," her characters often played supporting roles.

Breakthrough with "The Killing"

Lahti's breakout role came in 2011 when she was cast as Gwen Eaton in AMC's crime drama "The Killing." The series, a remake of a Danish crime drama, became a critical and international success, garnering praise for its exploration of a missing teenager's disappearance.

Starring Role in "Motive"

In 2013, Lahti took on her first starring role as Detective Angie Flynn in the Canadian crime drama "Motive." This role earned her multiple Leo Award nominations and an award for Best Actress in a Dramatic Series. The show's unique approach to crime storytelling, showcasing both the victim and the killer at the outset of each episode, captivated viewers.

"Altered Carbon" and Recent Projects

In 2018, Lahti joined the cast of Netflix's science fiction series "Altered Carbon," playing Miriam Bancroft, the wife of an influential politician. She has continued to work steadily, appearing in the Netflix limited series "Midnight Mass" (2021).

Personal Life

Lahti is happily married to fellow Canadian actor Adam Reid, whom she wed in 2007. Together, they have a son, Sam. Lahti has been selective about sharing her personal life on social media, but occasionally shares glimpses of her family and career on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook.
