Krzysztof Putra, a Prominent Polish Politician
Early Life and Political ActivismKrzysztof Putra, a notable Polish right-wing politician, was born on July 4, 1957, in Juzefovo, Poland. He hailed from a family with political connections, as his grandfather, Aleksander Putra, served as a pre-World War II Member of Parliament.
During Poland's communist era, Putra joined the Solidarity movement. From 1975 to 1994, he worked as a laborer in Bialystok. His involvement in Solidarity led to his election as a Solidarity-backed member of the Sejm (Parliament) from 1989 to 1991.
Political Career
After the fall of communism, Putra joined the Polish Christian Democratic Party and later co-founded the conservative Law and Justice (PiS) party in 2001. He became a prominent figure within PiS, holding significant sway in his home region of the Podlaskie Voivodeship.
In 2005, Putra was elected Deputy Marshal of the Senate, effectively serving as the leader of the upper house of parliament. He ran for the position of Marshal of the Senate as a PiS candidate but narrowly lost to Bronislaw Komorowski of the Civic Platform party in a closely contested election.
Tragic Demise
On April 10, 2010, tragedy struck when Putra perished in the Smolensk plane crash while accompanying President Lech Kaczynski and his wife to the Katyn Forest. The plane crashed upon landing, killing all 96 passengers and crew members, including Putra.
Legacy
Krzysztof Putra left behind a wife and eight children. His legacy as a dedicated politician who fought for conservative values is still remembered in Poland today.
