Biography of Kubatbek Baibolov
Kubatbek Kalbekovich Baibolov was born on January 2, 1952, in the village of Chon-Aryk in the Alamedin District of the Kirghiz SSR. After graduating from high school, Baibolov began working as a loader at the V.I. Lenin Machine Building Plant in Frunze (now Bishkek) in 1969. He served in the Soviet Army from 1970 to 1972 and then went on to study history at the Kyrgyz State University from 1972 to 1977. After completing his studies, Baibolov worked as a teacher, teaching history and social studies at a school.
In 1978, Baibolov joined the state security organs of the Soviet Union. He graduated from the Higher Courses of the KGB of the USSR in 1979 and the Krasnaya Zvezda Institute of the KGB of the USSR in 1983. He served as an advisor to the Chief of the Information Service for Combating Terrorism and Underground Bandit Formations in Afghanistan from 1983 to 1984. From 1989 to 1991, he worked in Moscow as a staff member of the First Main Directorate of the KGB of the USSR (foreign intelligence).
In 1991, Baibolov became the Chief of the Intelligence Department of the KGB of Kyrgyzstan, and in 1992, he retired from active service with the rank of colonel. He then worked in the city administration of Bishkek for a short time and later engaged in private entrepreneurship from 1992 to 1994.
Baibolov entered politics in 1995 when he was elected as a deputy to the Jogorku Kenesh (the Kyrgyz parliament). He played a significant role in the development of the Criminal, Criminal Procedure, and Civil Codes of Kyrgyzstan. He was re-elected to the parliament in 2000 and served as the Chairman of the Committee on Criminal, Civil, and Administrative Legislation. In 2004, Baibolov was appointed as the Vice-Speaker of the Jogorku Kenesh.
During the Tulip Revolution in 2005, Baibolov supported Kurmanbek Bakiyev, who became the President of Kyrgyzstan. Baibolov held various positions in opposition parties and civil society organizations before leaving politics in 2008.
In 2010, Baibolov returned to the political scene and was appointed as the First Deputy Chairman of the State National Security Service. He later served as the Minister of Internal Affairs and, in September 2010, was appointed as the Prosecutor General of Kyrgyzstan. Baibolov held this position until his retirement.
Baibolov is known for his hobbies in hunting, fishing, and skiing. He is fluent in Kyrgyz, Russian, and Farsi. He has been awarded the rank of State Counsellor of the 2nd class.
Baibolov is married to Nurzhamal Satarovna, a former translator for the KGB and a retired captain of the presidential security service. They have four daughters and two sons.
