The History of KVATRO

The group KVATRO was formed in 2003 by four friends who were graduates of the Moscow Choral College named after A.V. Sveshnikov at the V.S. Popov Academy of Choral Art. The original lineup consisted of Leonid Ovrutsky (baritone), Anton Sergeyev (tenor), Anton Boglevsky (tenor), and Denis Vertunov (bass). In 2017, Denis Vertunov was replaced by Danila Karzanov.

The group found its name during a chance incident while on an internship in Italy. Upon learning that they were staying near the home of Placido Domingo, the famous tenor, the friends decided to sing under his window. The locals called the singers "quattro ragazzi" (four guys) and even called the police. The group liked the sound of the phrase "quattro ragazzi" but decided to simplify it to one word for conciseness. Thus, the name "KVATRO" was chosen, which means "four" in Italian.

In 2008, after winning the "Five Stars. Intervision" competition, KVATRO gained nationwide recognition. They received the first prize, narrowly beating singer Tahmina Niyazova with a one-vote advantage (216 to 215).

In 2009, the group achieved further success by reaching the top three in the Russian selection round for Eurovision 2009. Through phone and SMS voting, KVATRO received 12% of the votes.

KVATRO frequently represents Russia on the international stage during the Days of Russian Culture and other events organized by the Embassy of the Russian Federation and other public associations. In 2010, they performed with Joseph Kobzon at the prestigious Royal Albert Hall in London.

Since 2011, the group has been participating in the "Russian Maslenitsa in London" festival, organized by Ensemble Productions in partnership with the Mayor of London, the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation, the Russian World Foundation, the Federal Agency for the Commonwealth of Independent States Affairs, Compatriots Living Abroad, and International Humanitarian Cooperation, the Embassy of Russia in London, and the group "Oneksim."

In 2013, KVATRO performed with Dina Garipova, the winner of the TV show "The Voice," at the international music festival in Ravello. The concert, held on July 23 at the "Belvedere di Villa Rufolo" venue, featured Russian romances and Neapolitan songs, symbolizing the fusion of musical traditions between Russia and Italy.

In June 2016, KVATRO performed as part of the Moscow Days in Nice.

The group's repertoire encompasses various styles, from classical music in modern arrangements and romances to the golden hits of Soviet and international pop, as well as original songs. KVATRO has shared the stage with Placido Domingo, Michael Bolton, Dmitri Hvorostovsky, and Alessandro Safina.
