Biography of Dmitry Chaplin

Dmitry Alexandrovich Chaplin was born in 1982 in Rostov-on-Don, in the former Soviet Union. He is a professional dancer of Russian descent, specializing in Latin dances.

Early Life and Education

Dmitry's family immigrated to the United States, and he completed his schooling there. He studied at Brooklyn College in Brooklyn, New York for one semester.

Dancing Career

Dmitry started dancing in the Soviet Union and continued his passion in the United States. In 2006, he became a finalist in the US National Amateur Dancesport Championships held in Provo, Utah.

In the same year, Dmitry gained recognition as a contestant on the second season of the popular American reality show, "So You Think You Can Dance." His style, characterized by his masculine approach, caught the attention of the audience. His signature look, dancing shirtless or with an unbuttoned shirt, became a trademark of his performances. Dmitry continued to participate in the show until 2008, appearing in the third and fourth seasons.

After "So You Think You Can Dance," Dmitry relocated to Los Angeles, hoping to further his career in the entertainment industry. He worked as a dance instructor at Mary Murphy's Champion Ballroom Academy. In 2008, he served as a judge at the Broadway Dreams Dance Competition in Niagara Falls, Canada.

Dancing with the Stars

Dmitry first appeared on the famous reality show "Dancing with the Stars" in its eighth season. However, his breakthrough came in the ninth season when he partnered with popular singer Mya and they secured second place. In the twelfth season, Dmitry teamed up with legendary supermodel Petra Nemcova, and they garnered significant popularity among the audience. Despite their success, they were eliminated from the competition in April 2011.
