Ladyhawke is a New Zealand singer, musician, and songwriter. She was born in Masterton, Wellington, New Zealand, into a musically inclined family. Her mother was a guitarist and singer, while her stepfather was a jazz drummer. From a young age, Ladyhawke was drawn to music, listening to radio and her mother's extensive record collection.
Despite facing numerous health issues, including allergies and a rare disease called erysipeloid, Ladyhawke's love for music continued to grow. In college, she joined several grunge bands, but it was in Wellington where she found her true musical calling. Alongside a group of friends, Ladyhawke formed the band "Two Lane Blacktop," drawing inspiration from Iggy Pop, The Stooges, and The Clash.
After some time, Ladyhawke relocated to Melbourne, where she met Nick Littlemore. Littlemore invited her to join his new musical project, a band called "Teenager." They collaborated for two years, and one of their songs, "Pony," even made it into the popular video game "Grand Theft Auto IV."
Although she enjoyed working with Littlemore, Ladyhawke yearned for a solo project. Drawing inspiration from the character played by Michelle Pfeiffer in the fantasy film "Ladyhawke," she adopted the pseudonym and finally had the opportunity to express herself fully in music.
Ladyhawke's solo work was heavily influenced by popular artists of the 80s, such as Cyndi Lauper, Pat Benatar, Kim Wilde, Annie, and New Young Pony Club. The Electric Light Orchestra and their album "Time" also played a significant role in shaping Ladyhawke's musical style.
In May 2009, Ladyhawke's debut album achieved gold status, and her new single, "Back of the Van," was released. In August of the same year, it was announced that she would be one of the featured performers on a new concert tour, alongside Ida Maria.
Currently, Ladyhawke is working on her second album, gathering materials for its creation.
