Biography of Laleh Pourkarim

Early Life

Laleh Pourkarim, an Iranian-Swedish actress and singer, was born on June 10, 1982, in Iran. However, she and her family were forced to leave the country when she was a child due to the new Islamic regime. They lived in a refugee camp in Azerbaijan for some time before settling in Minsk. Laleh arrived in Sweden at the age of 12. Her father, a well-known artist, journalist, and ethnologist, opposed the Islamic regime and tragically drowned in 1994 while trying to save a woman who had capsized in a canoe. Laleh's mother was a refugee from Georgia who moved to Iran to study literature at the University of Tehran.

Career

Laleh developed a passion for music from a young age and began writing her own songs. Most of her compositions were in Swedish, but she also recorded some songs in English and even her native Persian language. In 2000, she played a supporting role in the film "Jalla! Jalla!" but her acting career ended there. Laleh founded her own company, "Lost Army," in 2003, and started working on her debut album, which was released in 2005. The album, titled "Laleh," immediately made waves in the music scene, reaching the number one spot on the national charts in its first week and remaining in the Top 60 for the next 70 weeks. It also became the best-selling album of the year. Critics praised Pourkarim's work, although some noted a lack of genre consistency. Laleh was known for her reluctance to give interviews and engage with the press.

Laleh experienced a second wave of popularity in 2011 after participating in the music show "Så mycket bättre," which reminded the public of her talent and paved the way for her album "Sjung."
