The goal propelled him past Eric Wynalda as the USMNT's all-time leading scorer with 35 goals. In the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa, Donovan's dramatic 91st-minute strike against Algeria secured a 1-0 victory and sent the United States through to the knockout rounds.
Personal Challenges and Triumphs
Despite his on-field achievements, Donovan faced personal adversity in 2009 when he was diagnosed with swine flu following a World Cup qualifying match against Mexico. Undeterred, he returned to form and continued to contribute significantly to both club and country.
