Biography of Lara Dutta

Lara Dutta is an Indian model and actress, as well as a Goodwill Ambassador and Miss Universe 2000. She was born on April 16, 1978, in Ghaziabad, near Delhi, in the state of Uttar Pradesh, to a Punjabi father, L. K. Dutta, a retired air force wing commander, and Jennifer Dutta, a Scottish woman. Lara also has two sisters. In 1981, her family moved to Bangalore, where Lara later completed her high school education before attending the University of Mumbai, where she studied economics. She graduated with an MBA degree specializing in marketing and communications.

Career

From a young age, Lara dreamt of working in the modeling industry and acting in films. At the age of 16, she left Bangalore and moved to Mumbai to pursue her dreams. She soon became a top model and ventured into the advertising industry, notably endorsing L'Oreal cosmetics and appearing in the music video "Tu chaalu hai Re". Lara made her acting debut in the film "Andaaz" (2003), where she starred alongside Akshay Kumar.

In the year 2000, Lara emerged victorious in the Femina Miss India competition. She went on to win the Miss Universe 2000 pageant held in Cyprus, beating tough competition from other contestants. The judges unanimously voted for Lara as the winner. Following her victory, Lara started receiving offers to act in films and appear in commercials. She lived in New York for two years after the pageant. Lara Dutta became the second Indian woman to win the prestigious beauty pageant. In the same year, Indian contestant Priyanka Chopra won the Miss World pageant, and Dia Mirza won the Miss Asia Pacific pageant, making it a triple victory for India.

Goodwill Ambassador and Philanthropy

With the support of sponsors, Lara participated in campaigns against HIV/AIDS, worked in programs to treat drug addiction, and venereal diseases. In early December 2001, she took part in the United Nations World AIDS Day and became an official goodwill ambassador for the United Nations Population Fund. Lara also won the Miss Intercontinental pageant in 1997. She is currently in a relationship with actor Kelly Dorji, who is of Bhutanese origin.

Lara's favorite animal is the tiger, and she has a passion for sports competitions. Her favorite films include "Gone with the Wind" and "Ghost", while her favorite actor is Mel Gibson and her favorite actress is Jodie Foster. She enjoys Italian cuisine and loves listening to Mozart's music. Her favorite holiday destination is Italy.
