Larissa Vassilian: A German Journalist and Podcasting Pioneer
Larissa Vassilian, known by her pseudonym Annik Rubens, is a prominent German journalist and podcaster. With over 10,000 subscribers to her podcast "Sleepless Nights in Munich" (Schlaflos in München), she ranks among the most successful female podcasters in Germany.
Early Life and Education
Born on June 17, 1976, in Konstanz, Larissa Vassilian is the daughter of a Bavarian mother and an Armenian father. She attended Franz-Marc-Gymnasium in Markt Schwaben and went on to study American history, politics, and ethnology at Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich from 1995 to 2003. In 2004, she completed a distance learning course in Freelance and Feature Writing from the London School of Journalism.
Journalism Career
Vassilian's journalism career spans various roles. She worked as an intern or freelancer for several print publications, including Süddeutsche Zeitung, an evening newspaper, and Bild München (2001). From 2004 to 2005, she served as the Film and Television Editor for GONG and Bild+Funk. As a freelance contributor, she has written film reviews for yaez (2003-2007 and 2009-present) and has been active on SWR and Bayerischer Runkfunk radio, covering topics related to the internet, computers, and modern media.
Podcasting Success
In 2005, Vassilian launched the popular podcast "Sleepless Nights in Munich" with Timo Hätzel. Along with fellow podcaster Hoy Nazan, she also hosted the podcast "Movies and More" with a companion video podcast until October 1, 2006. Vassilian is involved in several other podcast projects, including Audible Hörletter (commercial), Handling Hören, and the podcast portal 99 Podcasts.
After episode 400 on September 19, 2006, Vassilian took a brief hiatus from "Sleepless Nights in Munich." The podcast later resumed on a weekly basis, incorporating new segments such as the popular "Underlined" correspondence with Jens-Uwe Krause.
Teaching and Workshops
Since 2006, Vassilian has taught as a lecturer in Music Journalism at the Institute for Music and Theater in Munich. She also conducts workshops in electronic media at various schools and institutions.
Video Podcasting
In March 2009, Vassilian and the enigmatic elk Mo launched the video podcast "Instead of TV."
