L. Zox, an American abstract expressionist artist, was born in Iowa. Growing up in New York City, he immersed himself in the bohemian art and entertainment scenes. Zox received his art education at Oklahoma State University and Drake University before pursuing painting at the Des Moines Art Center under the tutelage of George Grosz.

Career and Recognition

Zox's artistic career was marked by numerous awards and grants, including the prestigious Guggenheim Fellowship and the Esther/Adolph Gottlieb Foundation Grant. He held teaching positions at the University of North Carolina, Yale University, and Dartmouth College.
