During her childhood, Laura worked on her family's farm, taking care of the livestock. However, she had always dreamed of becoming a model. She pursued various professions and also attended Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond, where she became the first in her family to attend college. Unfortunately, participating in the reality show hindered her from completing her final exams and moving on to the next year of college.

Modeling Career

Laura had aspirations of becoming a model long before her appearance on "America's Next Top Model". In the past, she had attempted to break into the show but was rejected due to her height. Encouraged by her grandmother, who had always been one of her closest friends, Laura decided to try again in the 13th cycle, where they were specifically looking for petite models.

Laura unexpectedly found herself at the casting in Chicago, where she immediately caught the attention of the judges. From the first episode, she won the hearts of the jury and audience with her unique style as a "country girl" and her strong Kentucky accent. Although some members of the jury, such as renowned photographer Nigel Barker, saw her accent as potentially detrimental in the modeling industry, Laura embraced her authenticity and decided to be herself.

Throughout the competition, Laura often fondly spoke about her grandmother, Wanda Sue Kirkpatrick, and even wore outfits designed by her. Despite never being in the bottom two, Laura also never secured a first-place finish. However, her best shots were taken during the "Cirque du Soleil" photoshoot.

Life After "America's Next Top Model"

Laura's strong accent was not her only challenge in life; she also struggled with dyslexia, making it difficult for her to read printed texts. Nevertheless, her charisma and unique style led her to the final of the competition, where she was ultimately surpassed by Nicole Fox.

After the show, Laura won the viewers' choice award, resulting in a six-month lease on an apartment in New York City. Although the exact voting results were not disclosed, the producers made it clear to Laura that she had left her competition far behind. Following her time in New York, Laura planned to travel to Germany to continue her modeling career in Europe.

On December 5, 2009, Laura served as the marshal at the Christmas parade in her hometown of Stanford. In 2010, she participated in charitable events dedicated to the tragic events in Haiti.
