Early Life and Modeling Career
Daniela Pestova was born and raised in the Czech Republic, amidst political turmoil. Despite the instability, her affluent family provided her with opportunities. At the age of 19, she was scouted by the Dominique Caffin modeling agency in Prague. Persuading her parents to let her pursue modeling, she won her first contest and soon signed with Dominique's agency in Paris.
In 1990, her modeling career took off, with her images appearing in magazines and her fame growing. Three years later, she moved to New York, despite her lack of English proficiency. Nonetheless, she landed covers for renowned publications such as Marie Claire, Cosmopolitan, Glamour, and Elle.
L'Oreal Success and Victoria's Secret
A major breakthrough came in 1994 when Pestova signed a lucrative contract with L'Oreal cosmetics, becoming the face of the brand and further solidifying her status as a supermodel. Simultaneously, she starred in Victoria's Secret lingerie campaigns alongside Stepahanie Seymour and Jasmine Gauri. She also showcased swimsuits in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue in 1995 and 1998.
Personal Life
Pestova was married to Tomas Buti, a fellow model, and they had a son, Yannick, in 1996. However, they divorced in 1998. In 2002, she welcomed a daughter, Ella, with Slovak singer Pavol Habera.
Despite her initial lack of English, Pestova became fluent in Russian, Italian, French, and Czech. She eventually mastered English and became a US citizen.
