Early Life and Background
Born on June 27, 1996, in Miami, Florida, to Cuban parents Michael Jauregui and Clara Morgado, Lauren Jauregui hails from a diverse cultural background. Her father works as a plant manager, while her mother, who fled to the United States during Fidel Castro's rise to power, is an educator. Jauregui is predominantly of Cuban descent, with some Spanish ancestry.
Education and Artistic Pursuits
The eldest of three siblings, Jauregui attended a co-ed Catholic school from pre-kindergarten to sixth grade. She then went on to study at the Carrollton School of the Sacred Heart, a Catholic college preparatory school for girls in Miami, on academic scholarship. As a participant in the school's International Baccalaureate program, she showcased her talents as a performer and athlete, joining the school's talent show and softball team.
Throughout her school years, Jauregui expressed herself through various artistic mediums, from singing and writing to dancing, choreography, piano playing, and drawing. Her musical influences encompass '90s R&B, alternative rock, singer-songwriters, vocalists, pop, Latin music, and soul.
Music Career
Fifth Harmony BeginningsJauregui rose to fame as a member of the girl group Fifth Harmony, which emerged from the second season of the American reality television competition series "The X Factor" in 2012. The group achieved global success, selling over 10 million albums and touring extensively.
Solo Endeavors
After Fifth Harmony's hiatus in 2018, Jauregui embarked on her solo career. She collaborated with Marian Hill, Steve Aoki, and Halsey before releasing her debut solo single, "Expectations," in October 2018. The following year, she dropped "More Than That." Jauregui's songwriting credits include "Invisible Chains" for the "Birds of Prey" (2020) soundtrack and "Lento," a Latin urban track produced by Tay Keith, released in March 2020. Her EP "Prelude" arrived in November 2021.
Activism and Personal Life
Jauregui is known for using her platform to advocate for social justice issues such as human rights, education, criminal justice reform, voting rights, immigration, gun violence and reform, harassment, and other societal challenges. She has penned open letters criticizing Donald Trump and his policies, participated in protests, collaborated with organizations, and attended events that support these causes.
In 2016, Jauregui publicly came out as bisexual and has since become a vocal advocate for LGBTQ+ issues. She has openly discussed her struggles with anxiety and depression. Jauregui previously dated singer Ty Dolla Sign from 2017 to 2019 and is currently in a relationship with dancer and "So You Think You Can Dance" alumna Sasha Mallory.
