Biography of Leander Paes
Leander Paes is an Indian tennis player and former world number one in doubles. He turned professional in 1991 and has had a successful career since then. Paes has won a total of 12 Grand Slam titles in doubles and mixed doubles.

Grand Slam Titles
Paes has won the Australian Open twice in mixed doubles, in 2003 with Martina Navratilova and in 2010 with Cara Black. He has also won the French Open three times in doubles, in 1999 and 2001 with Mahesh Bhupathi and in 2009 with Lukas Dlouhy. Paes has won the Wimbledon tournament four times, in 1999 with Bhupathi in doubles, and in 1999, 2003, and 2010 in mixed doubles with Lisa Raymond, Navratilova, and Black respectively. He has also won the US Open three times, in 2006 with Martin Damm in doubles, in 2008 with Black in mixed doubles, and in 2009 with Dlouhy in doubles.

ATP Career
In addition to his Grand Slam titles, Paes has won one ATP tournament in singles in 1998 and 11 Challenger titles. From 1997 to 2010, he won 43 ATP tournaments in doubles, including 6 Grand Slam titles and 8 Masters series titles. Paes' most successful partnership has been with Bhupathi, with whom he won a total of 23 titles, including 2 Grand Slam titles. In 1999, Bhupathi and Paes reached the finals of all four Grand Slam tournaments and won the French Open and Wimbledon.

Throughout his career, Paes has achieved over 540 victories in doubles matches at the ATP level and has earned more than $5.8 million in prize money. He has been a part of the Indian national team for over 20 years, playing 116 matches and holding records for the most wins, most matches played, and most victories in doubles in the history of the Davis Cup. Paes has remained unbeaten in the doubles category in the Davis Cup since 2002 and, together with Bhupathi, they have won 23 consecutive matches in 14 years (as of May 2010).

Olympic Career
Paes represented India in five consecutive Olympic Games from 1992 to 2008. Despite being known for his doubles prowess, he won his only Olympic medal in singles. In 1996, Paes won the bronze medal in Atlanta by defeating Fernando Meligeni of Brazil in the bronze medal match. This was India's first individual Olympic medal since 1952.
In 2000, Paes had the honor of carrying the Indian flag during the opening ceremony of the Sydney Olympics. In 2008, he and Bhupathi reached the quarterfinals in Beijing but lost to the eventual Olympic champions Federer and Wawrinka.
Leander Paes has been a trailblazer for Indian tennis and has achieved remarkable success in both doubles and singles throughout his career. He has been an inspiration to many aspiring tennis players in India and continues to make a significant contribution to the sport.
