American Haiku Poet
James W. Hackett is an American poet specializing in haiku. By profession, he is a dentist residing in Lincoln, Illinois. Since 1981, he has published numerous haiku and articles about the form.
Professional Accomplishments
In 1997, Hackett served as President of the Haiku Society of America. Since 2002, he has held the position of Editor-in-Chief for Modern Haiku magazine.
Literary Contributions
To date, Hackett has published five collections of his own haiku and three books of translated contemporary Japanese haiku (in collaboration with Emiko Miyashita). His notable work, "Haiku: A Poet's Guide" (2003), provides a comprehensive overview of contemporary Western approaches to haiku. This book was recognized by the Haiku Society of America with their annual award for Best Critical Book.
Translations and Recognition
Some of Hackett's haiku have been translated into Russian by Mikhail Baru. His contributions to the art of haiku have earned him significant recognition within the literary community.
