Biography of Lee Harvey Oswald

Lee Harvey Oswald was the only official suspect in the assassination of American President Kennedy. According to the findings of the Warren Commission (1964), he fired three shots at the president's car from the sixth floor of a book depository in Dallas, Texas on November 22, 1963. As a result, President Kennedy was killed, Texas Governor Connally was seriously wounded, and one bystander was lightly injured. Oswald then went on to kill a local police officer. The Commission concluded that he "acted alone and without advice or assistance from anyone." On November 24, while being transported to another prison, Oswald was fatally shot by nightclub owner Jack Ruby, an event that was broadcasted live on television across the country.

Early Life and Military Service

Several aspects of Oswald's biography have led to numerous theories about his possible involvement in Kennedy's assassination, including the involvement of US intelligence agencies, Cubans, the Mafia, and the KGB. Oswald dropped out of school at the age of 17 and enlisted in the Marine Corps, where he was classified as a marksman between the lower and middle sniper categories. During his service, he studied Russian, although even after living in the USSR and marrying a Russian woman, his proficiency in the language remained poor. He was discharged three months before his scheduled end of service.

Life in the Soviet Union and Return to the United States

From 1959 to 1961, Oswald lived in the Soviet Union, specifically in Minsk. In Moscow, he renounced his American citizenship. In April 1961, he married a Soviet citizen named Marina Prusakova and returned to Texas. In the spring of 1963, while in New Orleans, Oswald had contacts with an anti-Castro group while publicly declaring himself a Marxist. He then returned to Dallas and obtained a job at a warehouse for school textbooks.
