Victor Ioffe: Soviet and Ukrainian Football Legend
Victor Ioffe, born on August 7, 1940, in Kryvyi Rih, Ukraine, left an enduring legacy in the world of football as both a player and coach.
Early Career and Military Service
Ioffe's football journey began at the tender age of 16 with the amateur club Hornyak. In 1959, he embarked on his professional career with Komanda Goroda Kryvyi Rih. A year later, he joined Balti Laevastik in Tallinn while serving in the military. Back in Ukraine, he played for SKChF Sevastopol from 1962 to 1963.
Return to Krivyi Rih and Coaching Career
After completing his military service, Ioffe returned to his hometown club in 1963 and retired from playing shortly after. He continued his involvement in football, representing various amateur teams in local championships. In 1973, he graduated from the Higher School of Trainers in Malakhovka, Russia.
Ioffe initially coached youth teams before joining the renowned Kryvbas sports school in 1975. In 1990, he was invited to join the coaching staff of Kryvbas, the professional football club based in Kryvyi Rih.
Head Coaching and Subsequent Career
Following the departure of Myron Markevych, Ioffe served as Kryvbas' head coach for a brief period between May and August 1990. He also coached amateur club Metallurg Kryvyi Rih for three years.
From 1995 to 1999, Ioffe led Sirius Kryvyi Rih, a professional football club. Subsequently, he returned to the Kryvbas DYuSSh as a coach.
Family and Legacy
Victor Ioffe's brothers, Georgy and Eduard, were also footballers. Ioffe passed away on December 7, 2018, in his hometown of Kryvyi Rih. He is remembered as a respected figure in Ukrainian football, leaving a lasting impact on the sport he loved.
