Leïla Jaffel: A Distinguished Tunisian Politician and Jurist
Early Life and EducationLeïla Jaffel was born on August 29, 1960, in Radès, Tunisia. She pursued a legal education, earning a license in private law in 1985 and a law qualification in 1986.
Judicial Career
Jaffel's legal career began in 1987 when she joined the judiciary. She served as a judge in the court of Grombalia from 1994 to 1998, the court of Tunis in 1998 and 1999, and as an advisor to the Tunis Court of Appeal in 1999 and 2000. From 2000 to 2003, she held the position of advisor to the penitentiary system of the Tunisian court of first instance.
Administrative Leadership
In 2008, Jaffel was appointed head of the Grombalia court of first instance and the Nabeul Court of Appeal. Her administrative responsibilities extended to the national level in 2020 when she was appointed Minister of State Property and Land Affairs in the government led by Prime Minister Hichem Mechichi. She served in this role until February 15, 2021.
Minister of Justice
On October 11, 2021, Jaffel was appointed Minister of Justice in the cabinet headed by Prime Minister Najla Bouden Romdhane. In this position, she oversees the Tunisian justice system and plays a pivotal role in upholding the rule of law and ensuring the fair administration of justice.
