Biography of Lela Rose

Lela Rose, an American fashion designer, was born in Texas in the early 1970s and grew up in Dallas. She studied painting and sculpture at the University of Colorado and graduated in 1991. As a student, she started her own small business, sewing vests from vintage scarves, but eventually decided to pursue a career in fashion instead of painting. She moved to New York and attended Parsons School of Design, graduating in 1993.

After completing her education, Rose worked as an assistant designer for Christian Francis Roth and Richard Tyler, gaining experience in both New York and Los Angeles. In 1998, she launched her first collection under her own label, 'Lela Rose', featuring women's clothing with elaborate embellishments and details. Her goal from the beginning was to create clothing with classic silhouettes and unique elements.

In 2001, Rose gained significant attention when Jenna and Barbara Bush wore her designs to their father's presidential inauguration. Prior to this moment, Rose primarily worked on private commissions. Following the inauguration, she expanded her business, collaborating with major retailers such as 'Bergdorf Goodman' in New York and 'Neiman Marcus' in Texas. Her clothing is also sold on the online store Shopbop.

Notable celebrities such as Mischa Barton, Molly Sims, Jessica Simpson, Ashley Judd, Mariska Hargitay, Mary-Kate Olsen, Ashley Olsen, and Selma Blair have worn Lela Rose's designs. In August 2007, she introduced a line of affordable footwear and accessories, including children's shoes, for the Kansas-based company 'Payless ShoeSource'. The line debuted during Fashion Week, followed by a second collection called 'Unforgettable Moments', featuring special occasion footwear.

In addition, Lela Rose is known for her exquisite bridal gowns, launching her wedding dress line in the fall of 2006. In 2009, she became a partner with 'Dessy Group' to produce bridesmaid dresses.

Lela Rose is a mother to a son named Grey and a daughter named Rosey Potter Jones, born in 2006.
