Journey into Bodybuilding

In the mid-1980s, Murray unexpectedly ventured into bodybuilding, and she took it very seriously. She initially found it intriguing, then developed a competitive drive, and ultimately aimed to achieve what she considered an ideal physical condition for herself. With determination in everything she pursued, Murray began training more intensely, and by the late 1980s, she had become a professional and won the IFBB North American Championships. She became a favorite model of photographer Bill Dobbins, who captured her in various photographs for his book "The Women and Modern Amazons."

Ms. Olympia Success

In November 1990, Murray dethroned the six-time champion and renowned female bodybuilding legend Cory Everson to win the Ms. Olympia competition. She held onto this title for the next five years, only slipping to second place in 1996 and 1997. During those years, she was defeated by Kim Chizevsky, who also aspired to win the Ms. Olympia title.

Throughout the 1990s, it was not easy to surpass Lenda Murray as she became the face of bodybuilding in magazines such as "Sports Illustrated," "Ebony," "Mademoiselle," and "Vanity Fair." With her broad shoulders and well-developed muscles, Murray remained feminine, and her figure continued to resemble an hourglass shape.

After losing the Ms. Olympia title to Chizevsky again in 1997, Murray almost withdrew from the bodybuilding scene. However, she made a comeback and proved that she was still in top form by winning the Ms. Olympia title in 2002 and 2003.

Retirement and Legacy

In 2004, Lenda Murray placed second, losing to Iris Kyle, which marked the end of her competitive career. She left a challenging task for her successors to surpass her unbeaten record of eight Ms. Olympia titles. Before fully retiring, Murray provided commentary on bodybuilding events on ESPN and released numerous instructional videos for aspiring bodybuilders.

In her personal life, Lenda Murray married Urel McGill, and the couple settled in Playa del Rey, California.

Despite retiring from competitions, Lenda Murray remains the standard of female bodybuilding, a true legend in the sport, and a symbol of "muscular beauty." She has inspired countless young female bodybuilders, who credit her as their role model.
