Early Life and Career
Leo Gordon Laporte was born in 1956 in Manhattan, New York City. Despite studying Chinese history at Yale University, his passion for technology and broadcasting led him to pursue a career in those fields.

Radio Beginnings
Laporte gained recognition for his technological shows. Notably, he co-hosted the radio program "Dvorak On Computers" with John Dvorak on KGO Radio and KSFO in San Francisco. He also hosted "Internet!" on PBS and "The Personal Computing Show" on CNBC.

Emmy-Winning Success
In 1997, Laporte received an Emmy Award for his role as Dev Null in the MSNBC show "The Site." He also created the popular cable TV show "The Screen Savers" in 1998, which he left in 2004.

Acting and Other Ventures
Laporte made a cameo appearance in the 2006 film "Phoenix Rising." In 2008, he hosted "The Lab with Leo Laporte" on Canadian television in Vancouver. He also served as the host of "The Tech Guy" on KFI AM 640 in Los Angeles.
TWiT.tv Network
Today, Laporte is known for his TWiT.tv network of podcasts, which he owns and operates. He prefers to call them "netcasts" to avoid any association with the iPod. Notably, he hosted a 24-hour special on the iPhone 3G in July 2008. TWiT is consistently among the top podcasts in iTunes.
Authorship
Beyond his broadcasting career, Laporte has authored several books on computer topics, including "101 Computer Answers You Need to Know," "Leo Laporte's 2005 Gadget Guide," and "Leo Laporte's Guide to TiVo." His articles and reviews have appeared in publications such as "BYTE," "InfoWorld," and "MacUser."
