Early Life and Education
Belgian conductor, composer, and musical educator Camille Dubois studied at the Brussels Conservatory under Alphonse Mailly (organ) and Joseph Dupont (composition).
Operatic Career
In 1889, Dubois embarked on his operatic conducting career in Nantes, where he staged his own one-act comic opera, "La Revanche de Sganarelle." He returned to Belgium in 1890 to work at the Brussels opera house La Monnaie and conducted opera in Liège in 1891. From 1892 to 1897, he served as La Monnaie's chief conductor once more.
Conducting and Teaching
In 1899, Dubois became director of the music school in Leuven, a position he held until 1912. From 1912 to 1925, he was director of the Brussels Conservatory.
Compositions
Dubois's notable compositions include the ballet "Le Mort" (1884), based on the work of Camille Lemonier, and the opera "Ed?nie" (1912), for which Lemonier also wrote the libretto.
