Biography of Leon Golub
Leon Golub was an American artist and graphic designer who worked in the style of American realism. He completed his university studies in Chicago in 1942 and then studied at the Chicago Institute of Art, earning a Master of Fine Arts degree in 1950. He was a member of the artistic group "Monster Roster" and participated in various contemporary art exhibitions, including Documenta 3 (1964), 8 (1987), and 11 (2003) in Kassel, Germany, as well as the 50th Venice Biennale.

Socially Engaged Artwork
Leon Golub's art has always been socially engaged. After seeing Picasso's "Guernica" at the Chicago Artists Club in 1937, he determined the future theme of his work. With his large-scale canvases, the artist fights against all forms of violence, from the use of napalm and cruelty in the Vietnam War to torture in police stations and street violence. Critics have sometimes compared Golub's work to "agitprop," which only emphasizes the impact of his piercing paintings, always executed in sharp, contrasting tones, on the viewer.
