Biography of Leonardo Mayer
Leonardo Mayer is an Argentine tennis player who was born in Corrientes and currently resides in Buenos Aires. He began playing tennis at the age of 9 and turned professional in 2003.
Career Highlights
In 2005, Mayer achieved success by winning the French Open in the junior men's doubles category. Throughout his career, he has participated in several ITF tournaments and reached the finals of four Challenger tournaments. In 2008, Mayer won the Challenger tournament by defeating Sergio Roitman.
ATP Tournaments and Grand Slams
Mayer made his debut in the ATP main draw in 2008, reaching the second round before being defeated by Jürgen Melzer, who eventually became the finalist of the tournament. In 2009, he made his first appearance in a Grand Slam tournament, the French Open, where he won his first-round match against James Blake but lost in the second round to Tommy Haas.
Mayer also had a decent performance in Wimbledon, winning his first-round match against Óscar Hernández but losing in the second round to Fernando González. He had notable achievements in American tournaments, reaching the semifinals of the LA Tennis Open and the quarterfinals of the Pilot Pen Tennis. At the 2009 US Open, Mayer won his first-round match but lost in the second round.
In 2011, Mayer successfully qualified for the Brasil Open and won his first-round match against Igor Andreev. However, he was defeated by Potito Starace in the second round. In 2012, Mayer reached the third round of the French Open but was defeated by Nicolas Almagro.
