Biography of Kevin Anderson
Kevin Anderson is a South African professional tennis player. He stands at 203 cm tall and weighs 89 kg. He began his career in 2007 and is a right-handed player with a two-handed backhand. Anderson has been coached by Michael Anderson and Luis Vuslo.
Early Life and Career
Anderson started playing tennis at the age of six. In addition to tennis, he was also interested in athletics and showed promising results in the 800-meter race. From 2005 to 2007, Anderson represented the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign in competitions.
ATP Tour
In 2007, Anderson qualified for the main draw of an ATP tournament for the first time in New Haven, USA. In 2008, he reached the final of the ATP tournament in Las Vegas, defeating players like Michael Llodra, John Isner, Evgeny Korolev, and Robby Ginepri. However, he lost to American tennis player Sam Querrey in three sets.
In the same year, Anderson, alongside Swedish player Robert Lindstedt, reached the quarterfinals of the men's doubles event at Wimbledon, a Grand Slam tournament. In August 2008, he participated in the Olympic Games in Beijing, reaching the second round in the singles event and losing in the first round in the doubles event with Jeff Coetzee.
Grand Slam Success and ATP Title
In 2010, Anderson won his first match in a Grand Slam singles event at the US Open, defeating Somdev Devvarman and Thomaz Bellucci. He reached the third round but was defeated by Richard Gasquet. In 2011, Anderson won his first ATP title at the tournament in Johannesburg, his hometown. He defeated Stefan Bohli, Dudi Sela, Karol Beck, Adrian Mannarino, and Somdev Devvarman in the final with a score of 4-6, 6-3, 6-2. This victory propelled him to the 39th position in the professional tennis rankings.
