Early Life and Junior CareerScott Lipsky, born August 14, 1981, in Merrick, New York, was destined for tennis greatness. At the age of five, he began practicing against a wall at his home. Inspired by his world-renowned grandfather, Jack Sherry, Lipsky pursued professional lessons at Mid-Island Indoor Tennis Court and later at Port Washington Tennis Academy.
As a junior, Lipsky dominated the rankings, earning the No. 1 spot in the United States in singles in 1995 and in doubles for three consecutive years from 1995 to 1997. He captured two USTA national championships in singles and teamed with Jeremy Wurtzman to win several doubles titles, including the Boys' 16s Championships in 1996 and 1997 and the Boys' 18s Clay Court Championships in 1999.
Collegiate Success
Lipsky's tennis prowess continued at Stanford University, where he earned All-American honors three times. In 2000, he helped his team win the NCAA championship and finished his collegiate career ranked No. 2 in the nation in doubles with David Martin.
Professional Career
Lipsky turned pro in 2003 and achieved his first Grand Slam triumph in 2011, winning the French Open mixed doubles title. Throughout his career, he earned over $600,000 in prize money. His highest ranking in doubles was No. 26, which he reached in 2011.
Jewish Heritage and Community Involvement
Lipsky's Jewish heritage has played an influential role in his life. After a tragic loss, his grandfather inspired him to use his tennis platform to connect with the Jewish community. He has represented Long Island at the Junior Maccabi Games and has been involved in various Jewish organizations.
Personal Life and Retirement
In July 2010, Lipsky married Marie. They reside in Huntington Beach, California, with his longtime doubles partner, David Martin. After retiring from professional tennis, Lipsky now serves as the Director of Tennis at Mesa Tennis Club in Newport Beach, California. His vast experience and passion continue to inspire the next generation of tennis players.
