Early Life and Education

Leonid Semyonovich Danilyuk was born on May 3, 1919, in Studenka village, now part of Bykhovsky District, Mogilev Region. He belonged to a Belarusian family and completed 10 classes of education before joining the Mogilev Pedagogical Institute. Danilyuk worked as the director of the Borkolabovskaya primary and secondary school.

Military Career

In October 1939, Danilyuk joined the Soviet Army and graduated from the Tbilisi Artillery School in 1941. He entered active combat in August 1941. As a major, Danilyuk commanded the 1822nd Self-Propelled Artillery Regiment of the 1st Mechanized Corps, 2nd Guards Tank Army, and 1st Belorussian Front.

Heroic Actions in Berlin

During the Battle of Berlin on April 19, 1945, Danilyuk's regiment faced resistance in capturing the town of Bernau. He led a flank attack and, despite his self-propelled gun being damaged, he pressed forward and crushed an anti-tank gun, entering the town's outskirts. From April 16 to 25, 1945, Danilyuk's regiment inflicted significant losses on enemy forces.

Recognition for Valor

For his actions, Leonid Danilyuk was awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union, Order of Lenin, and Gold Star Medal on May 31, 1945.

Post-War Life

Danilyuk retired as a lieutenant colonel in 1955 and worked in Kharkiv and Mogilev. He resided in Rogachev, Gomel Region, and was employed in a local enterprise.

Awards and Legacy

In addition to the title of Hero of the Soviet Union, Danilyuk received multiple awards, including three Orders of the Red Banner, two Orders of the Patriotic War first class, one Order of the Patriotic War second class, and several medals. A school in Bernau was named after him.
