Biography of Stepan Shutov

Stepan Fedorovich Shutov was a tank commander and Hero of the Soviet Union. He was born in 1902 in a peasant family and was of Belarusian nationality. Shutov joined the Communist Party of the Soviet Union in 1924 and served in the Soviet Army from the same year. He attended various military schools and courses to enhance his skills as a tank commander.

During the Great Patriotic War, Shutov fought on the Western Front and defended the approaches to Moscow in the autumn of 1941. He also participated in battles on the Volkhov, Voronezh, 2nd Ukrainian, and other fronts. He commanded a tank battalion, brigade, and served as the deputy commander of a mechanized corps. On January 10, 1944, Shutov was awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union. He was also awarded the second medal "Golden Star" on September 13, 1944, along with numerous other orders and medals. Shutov retired from the Soviet Army in September 1945 with the rank of colonel.
