Early Life and Military Service

Sergei Goryshkin was born on December 1, 1915, in SharapKino, Russia. He joined the Red Army in 1937 and graduated from the Uryupinsk Military Infantry School in 1941.

World War II Exploits

From July 1941 to the end of the war, Goryshkin served on the front lines, commanding various units. He participated in major battles, including the Battle of Kursk and the liberation of Ukraine and Poland.

Heroism at the Dnieper

In 1943, during the Battle of the Dnieper, Goryshkin's company was the first to cross to the western bank. They established a foothold and held it against heavy resistance, ensuring the success of their unit. For his bravery, Goryshkin was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union.

Liberation of Czestochowa

Goryshkin played a crucial role in the liberation of Czestochowa, Poland. With the support of the 54th Guards Tank Brigade, he led the charge against the enemy.

Forcing the Oder

In 1945, Goryshkin's battalion crossed the Oder River unexpectedly through a lock, surprising the enemy. They captured a vital bridgehead and prepared for the crossing of tanks. For this action, Goryshkin received his second Gold Star Medal.

Post-War Career and Tragedy

After the war, Goryshkin became a student at the Military Academy in Moscow. Sadly, he died in a tragic accident on November 12, 1945. He was buried in his hometown of Sverdlovsk, Ukraine.
