Leonid Golovnya: A Soviet Filmmaker's Journey
Early Life and EducationLeonid Golovnya was born in Moscow on July 18, 1939. Despite initially pursuing a geography degree at Moscow State University, his passion for filmmaking drew him to work as a maintenance technician for camera equipment at Mosfilm in 1960.
Directing Career
After completing his university studies, Golovnya honed his skills as a director at the amateur film studio of the Central House of Culture of Vocational Education. In 1966, he graduated from the directing faculty of VGIK under the tutelage of renowned filmmaker Efim Dzigan.
Mosfilm Years
Upon graduating, Golovnya became a director at Mosfilm, where he directed several notable films throughout the 1970s and 1980s. These included:

Later Career
In later years, Golovnya embarked on a project based on his own novel, "The Smell of Lemon," in Madrid. He was also married several times, including to actress Galina Yatskina from 1972 to 1976. Their son, Vasily Yatskin, is also an actor.
