Early Life and Education
Serhii Mykolayovych Nikitin was born on January 29, 1951, in the city of Smila, Cherkasy Oblast, Ukraine. He graduated with honors from the Nikolaev Shipbuilding Institute in 1974 with a degree in mechanical engineering.
Academic Career
Nikitin worked as a senior lecturer at the Department of Ship Machine Building Technologies in 1986 and became an associate professor in 1989. In 1996, he was appointed rector of the Nikolaev branch of the National University of "Kyiv-Mohyla Academy", which evolved into the Nikolaev State Humanitarian University named after Peter Mohyla in 2002. In 2009, it was renamed to the Black Sea State University named after Peter Mohyla, and on June 14, 2016, it became the Black Sea National University named after Peter Mohyla (BSNU named after Peter Mohyla).
Research and Publications
In 2002, Nikitin defended his thesis at the Technological University of Podillia in Khmelnytskyy, earning a doctorate in technical sciences on the topic of "Theoretical Foundations and Technologies for Creating Machine Nodes with Variable Wear Resistance." He has authored three textbooks, a monograph, a reference book, holds 20 patents, and has published over 100 scientific papers.
Honors and Recognition
Nikitin is a recipient of the Lenin Komsomol Prize of Ukraine in the field of science and technology. He is also an academician of the International Engineering Academy and the Engineering Academy of Ukraine, and a Honored Worker of Science (2006). He was twice awarded the honorary title of "Citizen of the Year" and was honored with the "For Scientific Achievements" medal in 2007.
